Minimalist Baroque Meets an Industrial Dining Room
A fully white, opulently curved Baroque chandelier and matching mirror hang above a raw steel table with a concrete floor and black metal chairs — ornament, distilled down to a single color.

Fauvist Wall Meets Mid-Century Dining Room
A wall painted in wildly clashing brushstrokes of orange, magenta, and cobalt blue, straight out of a Fauvist canvas — in front of it, a calm walnut dining table with classic Mid-Century chairs. Here, the art gets to be louder than the furniture.

Traditional Dining Room with Wood Paneling and Crystal Chandelier
Dark wood paneling, a crystal chandelier, and a set mahogany table turn this dining room into a space built for the big occasions.
Leave room for people as well as furniture
Choose a table for the number of people who regularly use it. Allow space to pull chairs back and walk past while others are seated. Consider an extended table in its open position too, so the arrangement works when guests arrive.
Combine tables and chairs thoughtfully
Geometric shapes and decorative surfaces can introduce an Art Deco reference; rounded forms suggest another direction. Classical chairs can provide contrast beside a simple table. A shared colour can connect different pieces, while seat height and arm clearance determine whether they work together.
Position the light around the table
Place a pendant in relation to the tabletop rather than automatically at the centre of the room. Check that it does not block faces or cause glare while people are seated. Dimmable light can help the table serve both daytime tasks and evening meals.
